Frostbite Run November 12th, 2024
The starting
point for the run was the car park on Duke Street, Tutbury.
I left home in Hinckley at around 8.30 am for the 30 or
so miles to the start.
This allowed plenty of time to allow for filling up with
fuel at the local Morrison’s petrol station.
Early on Sunday morning
is usually a quiet traffic time, so I made good time, arriving
at the car park at 9.30 am.
A few bikes had already arrived and soon there was a
steady flow of bikes filling up the parking spaces.
Mick Waterfield was our leader for the day. He had picked a fine route to our coffee and lunch stop at Croots Farm Shop, Duffield. The Frostbite Run didn’t live up to its name as it was not too cold, just grey but thankfully dry. Mick set off at 10.00 am with a really good turnout of bikes in tow. (I counted over 30 but I could have missed some.) Most riders manged to avoid the two moon craters in the tarmac just outside the car park!
We headed on mostly minor roads North to
Almonkton before turning East onto Long Lane and then passed
through Hollington, Ednaston, and then a short stretch on the
A52 to Brailsford.
Continuing we went through Huland Ward before skirting clockwise
around Carsington Water, across to Worksworth and then South to
our Coffee\Lunch stop on the outskirts of Duffield.
There was some great countryside to view along the scenic
route, all that was missing was a little sunshine to highlight
the colours as the leaves turned from green, to red to gold.
Croots was quite busy.
Some of us were able to find a table inside and there
were plenty of tables outside.
We stopped for an hour or so and brother John and I had a
tea and a nice scone.
(There was talk of a comment from Vic that his bacon
butty was not quite up to scratch but he did say the scone was
good.)
The run back to Tutbury was around an
hour along more minor roads and just one short tricky bit that
was a little slippery but not really a problem for anyone.
Keeps you on your toes.
😃
Back at the car park Andy Roberts
collected £32 that will go to our chosen charity. (We now expect
to collect £1.00 from everyone on a run.)
Andy thinks that he maybe missed one or two.
Maybe they can pay next time.
Many thanks to Mick Waterfield for
organising and leading the run, ably assisted by the back man
Dave Gould in his bright green, fluorescent jacket.
In the car park there were lots of good comments about
the run so we look forward to Mick maybe doing some more runs
for us next year.
Eddy.
Andy Roberts, Ken? and I
Bill Shackleford took a few video clips that I have laced
together and uploaded to my Youtube channel.
