Breakfast Run 2024
John Earp has sent this report and photographs below of his Breakfast Run. Bill Shackleford sent the last photograph on the page. Bill also sent a short video clip of the bikes arriving at Fradley. I have posted to Youtube. The link is below the photographs. Eddy
I'd been keeping an eye on the weather for Sunday all week and noticed rain appearing but hopefully not till later in the day. As it turned out when we gathered at Marston's club car park for the breakfast run it was a lovely sunny typical September morning.
Malcolm was the last to arrive on his trusty Honda and once the formalities and the £1.00 for charity was collected it was time to go.
As usual we turned left out of the car park up the Henhurst Hill and then straight on at 'five lane ends" towards Newbrough but due to the road being closed a week or so ago I decided to turn left onto the A515 and then right towards Hoar Cross past the Meynell Ingram pub.
Then straight on till we joined the Abbotts Bromley Rd and through the village but instead of the normal route across the reservoir causeway we took the next left to Newton and Hixon. After Hixon we joined the main A51 for about a mile before turning right to great Haywood where Brian Amies was waiting to join us on his BMW.
After Great Haywood we continued to Tixall and then Milford Common where we turned left back towards Rugeley. I was watching who was behind me at this point as I knew it would be awkward for them to stop at the Wolseley Bridge junction as its a junction where two road merge into one by the garden centre. Unluckily Steve got the prize on his Royal Enfield. I knew he knew where we were as he's followed me many times on this road but I did feel sorry for him having to position his bike here. Anyway, on towards Armitage we went via the Rugeley bi-pass past the Amazon warehouse and through Armitage and turned left after we'd gone under the main West Coast Mainline Bridge back towards Abbotts Bromley then a right to Kings Bromley.
By now I could see we'd become a bit separated, so I waited in Kings Bromley until we were back together before taking the Alrewas Road and after Lupin Farm turned right to Fradley Junction and the Canal Side Cafe where the owners were actually outside wating for us to arrive!!
It was still warm and sunny so we all sat outside on the patio and were joined by Bill and June in their Morris Traveller and their friend on his Buell. Later Pat joined us on his AJS 125 as did Geoff on his Greeves and a guy on his Ariel Leader. (I'm afraid I don't know his name, sorry.)
I think from WhatsApp posts that everyone enjoyed the run. It was a pity there were only 10 of us on such a lovely morning but there we are.
Thanks from me to everyone that did the run and came to Fradley afterwards and the staff at the Canal Side Cafe for making us so welcome and Mick as tail end Charlie on his Triumph.
7.30 am. John Earp's bike waiting for company.
