Update 2
Not a lot to report this week, winding down for holidays. So we’re making a start on the decompression lever refurbishment. The shaft runs in the ally rocker box and they always wear leading to oil leakage. First job is to mark the lever and the shaft so it can go back on the same spline thereby maintaining the correct relationship with the rocker arm. A screwdriver either side will ease the lever off, they do vary in tightness but this one was no problem. Making and fitting a bronze bush will have to wait for the next update. Various bits have arrived in the post this week including Electrex CDI and alternator, that will allow battery free lighting. And also a pancake air filter. The B40E had a unique arrangement when it came to air filtration using a Vokes pancake filter about one inch thick. If you haven’t got the one the bike left the factory with, and I haven’t, an original type replacement is in the hens teeth category. Searching eBay came up with a pancake filter intended for car SU carbs, one inch thick and more or less the correct diameter. It will need an adapter making and a coat of black paint but should do nicely. Fingers crossed for a nice Parade day Sunday.
