Another BSA for Brendan - BSA B40 Project - Update 3

Brendan writes: After a break in Spain which was slightly marred by some very sore ribs, yet another bike 'incident', progress has been made on the worn swing arm pivot. The first job besides the obvious wheel and brake rod removal was to get the pin out. Using the n/s set bolt and suitable spacer as extractor the pin was drawn out, only half an inch due to the short thread. A stud was then made with 7/16" cycle thread at one end and 1/2" BSF at the other, this along with a collection of washers and old bearings was used to pull the pin the rest of the way you out. Once out the problem was obvious, corrosion which was bad enough to have reduced the diameter of the pin, hence the play. The bushes weren't too bad but I replaced them anyway. Assembly was straightforward but the pin had to be drawn through using the extractor stud, it is a very tight fit. This followed by the shock absorbers, wheel etc and not forgetting a charge of grease just to make sure all was well. Still no V5 unfortunately so won't be on the road just yet.
