Ian Marcer Autumn Mists Run 2022
Mick Leach has sent this report and Andy
Roberts has sent some photographs. I took a couple of shots at
the start too. The refreshment stop was a bit of a scramble as
there was some kind of event going on there and the place was full
of cars. We were parked up in a not too suitable place
but at least we could leave when we wanted. I guess that the
car drivers were still trying to get out hours later.👿
Thanks to all who took part on what turned out to be a nice sunny
day. Maybe the late Ian Marcer was smiling down on us.👍
I always look forward to the Ian Marcer
Autumn Mists Run. Ian knew his way around the area and when I
heard that Eddy, also a native was leading the run I knew we
were in for a treat. I had been keeping an eye on the forecast
which at one point was iffy, but good fortune was on the cards
and when I looked at the forecast in the morning, there was only
a 2% chance of rain, so I put my overtrousers back in their bag.
Eddy and Gloria were already at Conkers when Ray, Andy and
myself got there. Others soon arrived and we were able to do
some catching up. Eventually fourteen motorcycles were
assembled. Mick Waterfield volunteered to be tail end Charlie
and after Eddy's briefing we were soon underway. I was impressed
how Ashby town centre was avoided and then a right turn off
Burton Road took us over the top of the A511 Ashby by pass and
through the village of Smisby, new roads to me. You can't beat
local knowledge. We seemed to circle around Breedon on the Hill
being treated to some fine vistas of the Priory on the top of
the hill which we later reached where we stopped to admire the
panoramic views from the church car park. We moved on and
eventually reached Swarkestone garden centre which was much
busier than usual. After coffees and ice creams we
recommenced the run back through Ticknall, and Blackfordby, then
circumvented Measham and back to Moira Tollgate from the
opposite direction to the way we had left. Thank you to Eddy and
Gloria for leading and planning the route, Mick Waterfield who
was our tail end Charlie and to the riders who supported the
event.
