Holmefirth Run 2022
Mick Leach has sent this report. The photographs were from Andy Roberts. Eddy.
On Tuesday 30th August six of us met at
Andy's house in Hatton ready for a 10am start to Monyash.
The weather was perfect, dry, with a gentle breeze and no sun in
your face. We had a pleasant ride to Monyash where we met
up with the VMCC Cheshire Cats Section who were on their way to
the Carding Shed, Holmefirth. After tea and coffee etc we
familiarised ourselves with one another before setting off to
Grindleford for lunch using the second man drop system.
I was the last one to drop off so was last in the queue for
food, I must plan that better next time. I ordered a chip
cob and when it arrived I felt as though I was on man versus
food I couldn't eat it all.
We left Grindleford in a smaller group a few had decided to go
home from here. We reached a main road and turned towards
Hathersage, the views were really something. We turned
right in Bamford past Ladybower reservoir and right onto the
Snake road then left over the Strines. This road is really
exciting on a motorcycle, twisty with several hairpin bends and
a view of several small reservoirs in the valley below if you
dare take your eyes off the road. We reached a main road
at Langsett and were soon at the Carding Shed and Oilcan café
on the outskirts of Holmefirth where we had a look at the old
cars and sat down for drinks but room for cake after such large
lunches.
We returned via another formidable road over Holme Moss down a
very long hill to the A628 which we crossed and onto the South
side of the Longdendale reservoirs on the road to Glossop where
from the two sections separately made their way home. I arrived
home very tired after a ride of about 140 demanding miles.
Thank you to the Cheshire cats and in particular Andy Royle
organiser and run leader and to the Burton section members who
shared what I thought was an exceptional day out. Mick
Leach.
