Grand Day Out 2022
Andy Roberts has sent this report and photographs of their Grand Day Out. Eddy
Nine riders left Tutbury car park at 0700hrs and
rode to the Midway Truck Stop at Prees Heath on the A41 South of
Whitchurch. Colin Gerard
joined us just beyond Bramshall.
Visibility was a problem with visors constantly getting
misted up with the early morning moisture.
After some had enjoyed a hearty full English breakfast we met an
enthusiastic Mike and Chris who had come direct from Armitage to
take part in the run. We then continued North before heading
West through Ruabon and Llangollen to Bala.
By now the cloud was high in the sky and the day had
started to really brighten up. We
travelled around the back of the lake to the far end where we
turned off up a narrow road towards Dina's Mawddwy. The road was
was rutted in places with green growth under some of the wooded
sections.
We stopped at the summit to admire the view and take some
pictures. The return
route took us down the long hill with a sharp hairpin at the
bottom that was used nearly a hundred years ago by manufacturers
to test their cars and motorcycles. On reaching Dina's Mawddwy
we joined the A470 for a while before turning East to Welshpool
and Shrewsbury, then after a few miles on the A5 we turned off
onto quieter roads towards Ironbridge, Shifnall and lanes to
Brewood where we enjoyed refreshments at The Bridge Inn canal
side pub. All good things
come to an end so after a ride towards home over Cannock Chase
to Rugeley riders gradually peeled off.
We had covered around 230 miles. Vic had run in his Tiger
100 after its major rebuild and got home without any problems.
There was a selection of old and new motorbikes but we all
rode at a comfortable pace for all and we all had a great day.
Thank you again to Mick Leach for a well organised Grand Day Out
and we all look forward to next year's day out. Andy.
