Frostbite Run November 5th 2023

Judging by the comments on WhatsApp this was an excellent run blessed with quite good weather.  It was led by Andy Roberts from Tutbury to Blake Hall Fishery.  Eddy

John Earp has sent this report:-

The Covid enquiry had nothing on the WhatsApp’s going on last night from various members discussing today’s run and the weather - I think the last message I received and replied to was at nearly 11.30pm.
In the event it turned out to be a bright and more importantly dry November 5th morning.
I arrived at Tutbury car park just after 10am and there were already lots of bikes and riders ready to go and at 10.30 our leader Andy Roberts gathered us together to tell us the run would be approximately 50 miles and we would be using the drop of system with Mick Leach as back man.
10.30am and off we went - turning right out of the car park towards Hatton then a left for Scropton Road and our first flooded road. I watched the bikes in front of me and followed their path through the floods as I didn’t want to find a pothole or submerged drain cover and soon we arrived on the A515 Sudbury road.
A left turn past Sudbury Hall and on towards Doveridge and one part I wasn’t looking forward to called Marston Lane, as it’s been covered with wet leaves, soil and water on past runs at this time of year, yet today it was not too bad and we were soon on the ‘B’ road to Rocester, then through Alton and finally to Cheadle - and our destination at Blake’s fishing lake.
This was my third breakfast stop here and they serve a very good breakfast - albeit we had to wait as they were already busy but it does give time to have a catch up with other members we’ve not seen for a while.
Food all eaten, everyone was ready for our return to Tutbury - Upper Tean, Lower Tean, Bramshall, Uttoxeter, Abbots Bromley, Newborough and finally Belmont Rd/Tutbury Rd at five lane ends - I turned off from the rest of the group onto Hanbury Rd to travel back to Stretton alone and left the other riders to return to the central car park in Tutbury - where we’d started.
I think Andy picked a brilliant route given the weather we’ve had lately and it was a fitting finale to 2023 - as it’s our last organised run of the year.
Thanks to Andy for organising the route and Mick Leach who I know helped him and was back man on the run.
Thanks to Blake’s Fisheries as the food is worth waiting for and the 20 riders with bikes that turned up for the run - we all had a great ride and once again in never rained - but my bike was filthy when I got home! John Earp

I was sent lots of photographs. Eddy.  A small selection of those from several people can be see below.
