Frost Bite Run 2021
The Route - Tutbury to Blake Hall Fisheries near Cheadle
John Earp has sent this report:
Sunday November 11th the final VMCC
Burton section run of 2021 - called the frostbite run - however
this morning was sunny and no frost in sight.
I arrived early at Tutbury car park but already quite a few
bikes had assembled ready for the run. As it got nearer to 10.00
more and more arrived until I think we had well over 40 riders
taking part on the run using a very wide and varied selection of
bikes.
Once again Eddy Grew explained the drop off system in great
detail and how this would work on the run also and that we would
be taking a refreshments stop at Blake Hall Fisheries in Cheadle
(just in case anyone got lost) then it was time to go.
Turning right out of the car Park towards Tutbury Castle through
Marchington, towards Uttoxeter left towards Kingsone right over
the A518 towards Bramshall and onto the Stone road.
Our leader took us on various ‘B’ roads in the direction of
Cheadle and the drop off system was working perfectly with
everyone where they should when they should be.
Eventually we arrived at a long gravely track which led us to
Blake Hall Fisheries in Cheadle for a refreshment stop.
I had a breakfast and mug of tea which was much appreciated as
the sun had now gone behind the clouds and a cool wind had taken
its place.
After an hour or so we continued our ride back through ‘darkest’
Staffordshire, towards Oakamoor by the river Churnet - into
Alton where an uphill junction with a sharp right onto the main
road must have tested all our biking skills not to mention our
clutches and brakes.
After a very pleasant return route we arrived back in the car
park at Tutbury. Some had already gone their own way but
those of us that returned to the car park had chance for a chat
about all things biking before returning home.
Thanks to Mick Leach for leading us on such an interesting and
enjoyable route, thanks to Eddy for his explanation of the drop
off system which worked perfectly, thanks to Brian our resident
photographer, to the Bob Higgs who was last man man and all that
took part to make it a most enjoyable day.
