Four Counties Run

Paul Beard organised this run and sent the write up below.  Gloria and I thoroughly enjoyed the run.  It was nice to see that we had too lady pillion passengers on the run, Gloria and Elaine.  The various versions of the weather forecast ranged from "Weather Warning" to "Sunshine and Showers" but on the day we were blessed with sunshine and dry roads.  as A bonus we arrived at Shenton station in time to see the steam locomotive "changing ends" before taking tha cariages on the return jouney. A really enjoyable outing.
The photographs are from Ken Foxall and John Earp.  John also provided some video that I will post to Youtube.  You can find the link is below the photgraphs Eddy.

The Burton Section Four Counties Run welcomed motorcycles of all ages, especially small/medium capacity and low-horsepower models, suited to our country lanes. It also welcomed Burton newbie Pete, Harry from North Staffs and Steve and Ken from Notts and Derby sections.

Setting off West from Marston’s (Staffordshire), the run took the familiar route through Tattenhill and Barton under Needwood, over the Walton bridge and crossing into Derbyshire.

From Walton we headed East, glancing through Warwickshire (close to the four counties collective at No Mans Heath) and onwards into Leicestershire, passing close by Twycross Zoo and onto Shackerstone, near to the western end of the preserved railway "The Battlefield Line".

Proceeding roughly in parallel to the preserved railway and crossing the Ashby canal multiple times, on roads surrounding fields from the "1485 Battle of Bosworth - War of the Roses" we had a brief toilet stop at Shenton Station (Eastern end of the preserved railway), before heading to our coffee stop at the Roast and Radish in Stoke Golding.

Having already passed through all four counties, we then returned through Sutton Cheney and the gated road into Market Bosworth. Heading West again we followed the popular motorcycle route through Clifton, Barton in the Beans, Oddstone, etc and on into Measham. From Measham we continued towards Acresford and onto Netherseal, Botany Bay and into Rosliston where we ended the run after approximately 60 miles, for refreshments at the Bull's Head.

Our motorcycles ranged from 65 years young to nearly new with many vintage classics and also modern classics, that members felt safe and comfortable to ride out on, making up the numbers.

Thanks to Andy Roberts for tail-end Charlie duties and everyone (riders and pillions) for taking part, bringing sunshine, good humour and conversation throughout. Paul.
