Clifford Arms Run 2025

Our Section Secretary, John Earp has sent this report and photographs.  Many thanks to Brian Amies for organising this run. Eddy

On a lovely sunny Wednesday at the beginning of June I made my way from Burton to the Clifford Arms at Great Haywood for the run organised and lead by Brian Amies.

After arriving and a chat with other riders Brian gathered us round to ask if everyone knew the second man drop off system as that is what we’d be using on the run.

He also mentioned a few potential pot holes on route and told us we’d be stopping for a comfort break around halfway.

So just after 10.30 we set off from the pub with myself as ‘back-man’ and turned left through the village until we joined the A51 towards Rugeley.

Then turned left down Bellamour lane - a road that is significant to me as it’s where a few years ago i was involved in an accident and my MZ ETZ 251 met its end!
We then joined the main road over Blithfield reservoir and eventually turned left towards Uttoxeter then left again and a series of back roads through the countryside towards Stafford.

Then via more country lanes and pot holes we eventually arrived at Cheadle where we stopped for a break and chat - this is where the still photos were taken.

After half an hour or so we headed back out of the car park through Cheadle on our return journey to Great Haywood, unfortunately the sun and blue sky had now been replaced by dark clouds and even a spot of rain.

Returning through Cresswell and Hilderstone we picked up the main A51 once more towards Rugeley and after a brief detour through Salt, because of a road closure Brian had no choice but to get us back on the A51 at Weston to make our way back to the Clifford Arms.

After parking up in the car park a few of the riders headed back home but most went into the pub - myself included - where Brian had asked the pub to reserve our tables and I had an excellent meal of Haddock, chips and mushy peas.

Thanks to Brian for organising the route, the pub and leading the run and the staff at the Clifford Arms for looking after us - I won’t on this occasion mention ‘tail end Charlie’ as it was me - but I really enjoyed the ride with such a nice bunch of people - even the sun made another appearance for our ride back home. John
