APMC Staffordshire Run 2020
Mick Leach has sent this report and photographs from Ray Furness and Andy Roberts. Eddy
Wednesday 17th August 2022, after a lie
in due to the overnight rain removing the need to water the
plants before breakfast, I met Andrew Ray and Andy together we
rode over to the Clifford Arms at Great Haywood, my wife's
parting words were it's in for the day. On the pub car park we
eventually numbered twelve by the time Brian arrived, most of us
being members of the VMCC and the APMC
Still raining we set off after Tixall the route became very
unfamiliar except I had been to the gates of RAF Stafford before
to identify the jet when taking part in a rally. I think we were
traveling in the Eccleshall direction for a while but eventually
turned onto minor roads through a tunnel before arriving at
Norbory Junction wharf cafe where we were afforded some shelter
in the outside seating area.
The return route carried on in the same direction passing
through another tunnel and underneath canopies of trees along
very rural roads, we crossed the A518 at Gnosall but other than
there I didn't really have any idea of where I was until
approaching Penkridge where we crossed the A499 and the A34 at
Brocton then on to Milford, Tixall and back to the Clifford
Arms, by which time it had stopped raining. This was an
excellent run I imagine it would be even better on a dry autumn
or spring day. Thank you to Brian Amies for organising and
leading the run and to Andy Roberts and Ray Furness for
providing the pictures. Mick Leach.
