Tax Dodger's Run 2018

Last year Ruth and I discovered this little village up on a ridge in
Derbyshire called Bretton where the dark peak and white peak meet.
There is a pub there called the Barrel Inn that is so popular that a
lunch stop would have been impractical but the view from up there is
stunning. I was intent on incorporating this in a run but the 7th
Tax dodgers run wasn't to be lucky 7 with regard to weather which
had turned sour. When I set off from home I had already had several
texts from people saying they couldn't make it so I was wondering if
there would be anybody at Marston's. I couldn't have been more
wrong, Eleven other riders and our travelling photographer
Brian accompanied me on the run up to the Yondermann cafe where I
think we all enjoyed the food and the natter. Unfortunately Malcolm
Bridges could not proceed any further ,his back tyre was completely
deflated. He called the breakdown and apparently he had to
wait till 4.30pm before he could leave the Yondermann. The run home
was along the ridge past the Barrel Inn and down into Grindleford
then on to Calver where we joined the Chesterfield road through
Baslow and over Beeley moor to Crich. From Crich we dropped
down to Cromford and through Wirksworh to Duffield where we followed
lanes through Kedleston back to Hilton. The weather was a big
disappointment but the company was great . Thanks to all those
who shared the day.
